Detroit Lakes Youth Ski Club

Welcome to the MYSL in Detroit Lakes!

Our group will meet for seven Sundays, from 2:30 - 4:30 beginning December 14th at Dunton Locks County Park.

Coaches: NO experience is required, just a good sense of humor. As our group grows in numbers of children, it must also grow in numbers of volunteer parent-coaches. Please indicate on your registration form your coaching interest, or other ways you'd like to help, such as "team coaching" with a friend or spouse, or even organizing the halftime snack schedule.

Volunteers: This league is run by volunteers. You are the main reason for the success and affordability of the program. We strongly encourage at least one adult volunteer for each skier or set of sibling skiers registered. Please fill in the information on the registration form. If you are bringing a child that has not been to first grade yet, we REQUIRE that you be with your skier. They love showing you what they can do! There will be something for everyone at the new location. Our desire is to ensure that everyone is safe, comfortable, and having a good time.

Weather and Equipment: We will meet regardless of snow conditions. However, if the temperature is forecast to be colder than -10° F, or if the wind chills are forecast to be colder than -15° F, we will cancel for that day. If the snow is not "skiable", we will play age appropriate games or pole hike. So, to be safe, always bring your ski equipment! Equipment will be available for those that do not have their own equipment. We do encourage anyone who plans on continuing skiing outside of the program to purchase their own equipment as it will have less wear and tear than the borrowed equipment- if you need suggestions please talk to Nikki or Dan.

Clothing: Dress in layers with polypropylene or a similar wicking layer close to the skin. One or more insulating layers over that, depending on the temperature, followed by a wind breaking outer layer that sheds the snow (we fall down and roll in the snow for fun, you know!) is suggested. Warm mittens (or gloves for older skiers) and good dry socks are a must! However- please remember that we have to move around quite a bit to ski, so don't dress in anything that will restrict movements!

We are looking forward to a successful year of skiing! If you have any questions contact:

Nikki Caulfield (218) 844-7352, ncaulfield01@hamline.edu. Please put Youth Ski League in the Subject Line. Thanks!
