Eden Prairie Youth Ski Club

Today, February 21, is our final class of the 2010 season. Thanks to all the families who made this such a great year!

New members, please remember to pick up your MYSL hat today if you didn't get it last week. We hope everyone can make it today for the final class. See you at Staring!

Welcome to the Eden Prairie Youth Ski Club 2010 Season!

Thank you for being a part of Eden Prairie's 6th season of introducing children ages 4 to 14 to the joys of Nordic skiing, and providing a fun winter activity for the entire family.

Please use online registration to sign up if possible. If you have problems with online registration, please contact Amy as directed on the registration page.

Schedule and Meeting Place
We will meet for eight Sunday afternoons, 1:30 – 3:00, from January 3th to February 21.

All member should meet in the parking lot of the Cummins Homestead at 13600 Pioneer Trail. The entrance has changed from previous years due to road construction on Pioneer Trail. The entrance is now east of the Cummins Homestead, across from Hummingbird Aviation. The drive is marked with a construction sign, so it doesn't look like a park entrance. The drive leads directly into the Sterling Fence building. Turn left at the Sterling Fence building and you will come to the parking area. We will have signs  marking the entrance for the first few weeks.

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to allow time to sign in and put on ski equipment, so we can start promptly at 1:30.

Equipment
All kids need to provide their own ski equipment. Tonka Cycle & Ski has agreed to provide rentals at the reduced rate of $9 for MYSL members. Equipment can be picked up Saturdays and returned Sundays for this rate. Please bring a copy of this letter the first time you rent to document your membership in MYSL.

Tonka Cycle & Ski is located on the southwest corner of Eden Prairie Rd. and Excelsior Blvd., just north of 62. Their weekend hours are 10-5 Saturdays and 12-5 Sundays. For more information, call them at 952-938-8336. Allow time to be fitted for skis your first visit. From then on your skis will be reserved for you each weekend. If several families rent from Tonka, we can take turns returning all the equipment each week for convenience.

Weather
We will meet regardless of snow conditions. Please bring your gear even if there is no snow, as we will use the poles for pole hiking and new skiers can practice getting skis on/off and getting up. If the temperature drops below minus 10F, class may be cancelled. We will e-mail a cancellation notice at least one hour before class.

Clothing
Dress your child appropriately for the day’s weather. Dress in layers: long underwear, an insulating layer, and a non-absorbent outer layer to block the wind and keep out snow. Warm hats, mittens, and socks are mandatory!

Curriculum
The MYSL provides a structured 8-week curriculum at six different ski levels. Depending on enrollment, we may not offer classes at all six levels this season. Children will be grouped into appropriate classes at the first meeting.

Volunteers
MYSL is a volunteer organization, and we need your help! We need volunteers to bring snacks each week, help with bibs, and staff the warming house. Members of the EPHS Nordic Ski team will be volunteering as coaches, but parents who ski are also urged to consider coaching. You don’t need to be an elite skier, you just have to like helping kids and having fun!

We look forward to seeing you on the trails, especially with all our wonderful snow this season!
